Carnival in Eindhoven as Oompa Loompa / Carnaval in Eindhoven als Oompa Loompa

Even though DH and myself our not originated in the South part of our little country we do have a little boy that has been living here ever since he was one-and-a-half and grew up with Carnival. Every year DS Joram and I go to the parade downtown and he loves to catch candy and medals that are trown into the audience. It is always fun to see people (from baby to seniors) all dressed up in the most weird and original costumes. Somehow Joram always picks out a costume that is different from the rest. He never wants to be a popular animated figure or something else trendy.

This year he and his friend Vince came up with the idea top become an Oompa Loompsa (You know, from Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate factory) They wanted to be the original ones, so not the ones from the new movie with Johnny Depp. But how the heck are you going to get costumes and wigs like that? Well, lucky enough Vince's mom, Linda is very very handy with the sewing machine and she made the costumes. The shoes were bought pink and were spraypainted white and the wigs were yellow and spraypainted green. The final result was sooooooo cool. Too bad we had to skip this years parade because it was so cold.
At Let's Scrap this weeks sketch was perfect for the one photo I took from Joram and Vince. This is what I came up with:

Cardstock: Bazzill
The little tag was printed from a image on the internet (the original movie poster) and the title was cut with my good friend the Silhouette.

Writing a paper in 3rd grade / Een werkstuk maken in groep 5

Every time it amazes me how much children have to do nowadays at school (looks like granny is talking, LOL) DS Joram in in third grade now and he has a test at least very week. Why I come up with this? He had to hand in his paper today! A paper! The child has just turned nine two weeks ago. It had to have chapters, had to be written on the computer and so much more..................... He even has to give a presentation in class about the subject he choose........................
Children have to play and enjoy more!

Joram wanted to write his paper about beachcombing. Well, the subject could not have been better. Joram loves to wonder around on the beach and look for everything there is to see and take it home. When we are in Brittany (France) Joram and myself are walking on the beach for hours and hours with our heads down to make sure we won't miss a thing. Brittany has the best beaches for finding stuff.

To get back to Joram's paper: He worked so hard to get it all perfect and done on time. He had this great idea about a minialbum in a crate together with some stuff he found on the beach. He figured out what font he wanted to use, what colors paper and so on. The final result was awesome. I am so proud of him!

By the way: The white stuff that you see around the shells and sea glass on the album is the still wet Tacky Glue

My favorite layouts / Mijn favoriete layouts

On the boards at Let's Scrap a question was posted about your favorite layouts. I have been thinking about that before and even though I have so many layouts there's always a couple that are still my favorites. Not so much because of what they look like but more the meaning behind them. Both layouts were made in 2008 but still give the same feeling when I look at them.
The first one is about the fears that you have when you are a mother. I don't think I have to explain that feeling to a mother. This is what the journaling says:

No one told me that motherhood would bring about so many fears
I fear those who would cause harm to others
I fear the horrible things that are happening in the world today
I fear losing you
I am afraid of what might happen when you are out of my sight
I am afraid of doing the wrong thing as your mother
I fear not being able to protect you
But I will ALWAYS try

The second one is maybe less interesting but it helped me seeing some things more clear. I have been taking high doses of anti-depressants ever since 2005 and for quite some time needing those meds really felt like failure. Over the years I came to realize that I need them and they just help me to lead a normal life. I probably will be taking them my entire life but if that makes it possible to lead a 'normal' life, who cares? Again, it took me forever to think this way.

For the 'I need them' layout:

Love my 'fake' Glimmer mist! / Mijn 'nep' Glimmer Mist is geweldig!

I still cannot believe how easy it is to make your own Glimmer Mist (you can read my tutorial HERE). I am definetely not going to buy any original ones. Okay,I did buy the white one because I do not own any white ink that would be water resolvent.
This time I used the bright pink one I made on white cardstock. It's hard to see, even on the detailed photos, but both the stickers and the rub-ons are glittered.
The photo that is on there is one from Jinte when she was a week old. I can not believe how small and tiny she looks on that photo. Unbelievable how fast time goes, she is almost seven months now.

Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned paper, stickers, rub-ons: K and Company
Flowers: Prima Marketing
Misc: Rhinestones

Another white space layout / Nog een witte ruimte layout

Okay, as I told you before: I love one photo layouts and  so called white space. So I did another one of those. Yes, I do know that scrapping like this will never make that huge pile of photos any smaller.

The photo on this layout is Joram's class photo from last year (groep 4 is grade 2). He is the one all the way on top leaning on the teachers shoulder. Underneath that photo another photo is hidden. And when you fold the original class photo open you will see a print of that same picture but I added numbers and corresponding names to make visible who is who)

When you take a look at the photo with the flap folded open you will see that you are not able to see the names. I did that on purpose to respect people's privacy.

Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned paper: Collage Press, Rusty Pickle
Stickers: American Crafts
Pen: Signo Uniball white
Misc: embroidery thread, beads, bling, charm

My favorite layouts are the ones with lots of white space. Technically that term is a bit of because that space can be any color. It means that you have a lot of empty cardstock around your photos. Mostly there's only one photo on the layout.
This weeks challenge at Let's Scrap was one with white space. Because of all the snow in a lot of parts of the world (even here) the challenge was the word SNOW. More detailed:

S: Shimmer, bling
N: nine of one embellishment
O: One photo
W: White space layout

This was really a challenge to my heart. I love one photo layouts, white space layout and recipe challenges. The hardest thing to do was to use nine of one embelisshment. I ended up with even 10 brads on this layout.

Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned paper: October Afternoon, Collage Press
Stickers: American Crafts, K and Company
Brads: Basic Grey, Creative Impressions
Ghost shape: Heidi Swapp
Glitter glue: Ranger Stickles
Shimmer spray: Tattered Angels
Misc: Staples

I cannot even remember scrapping a 'me' photo. Yes, I did do one of my belly, but my head is not on there...........LOL

For all of you: Have a good week!

S: Shimmer, bling  (glitter, bling)

N: nine of one embellishment (negen embellishments van dezelfde soort)
O: One photo (1 foto)

Cardstock: Bazzill
Dessinpapier: October Afternoon, Collage Press
Stickers: American Crafts, K and Company
Brads: Basic Grey, Creative Impressions
Acetaat frame: Heidi Swapp
Glitterlijm: Ranger Stickles
Shimmer spray: Tattered Angels

Kids room decorating / Kinderkamer decoratie

Joram has on of those rooms where we have put everything together that he likes. He has an aquarium, some plants, lots of shells and stones and all those little tidbits a 9 year old likes. Even though nothing really matches like it does in those Pottery Barn adds, his room is so nice and cozy. Today I did some more little stuff for his room. The other day I bought him two plants and I wanted to decorate the pots so they would fit more in a childrens room. I cut some vinyl with my Silhouette and simply adhered that to the pots. Both words are in Dutch and they mean 'grow' and 'bloom'. A couple of months ago I bought Joram some cacti decalls but they came without a pot so I never got around putting them up.
Today I cut the flowerpots with my Silhouette and finally put them up his wall.
Joram loves his room!

Let's Scrap card sketch

As I told you in my previous post: One of the challenges at Let's Scrap is to make cards from the leftovers you have from your layouts. I am not a big cardmaking fan, so that is a challenge. But I must admit: It's a very nice way to get rid of your leftovers and to keep updated with your cards for birthdays and so on. All the supplies I used for this card can be found in my previous post. And I told you in my previous post that I was going to make the card in the evening. Well duh, it's already done! That will give me the time to do some household chores tonight (or scrap some more, LOL). I already cleaned up our laundry room today............
